At Everlasting Gardener:
Saturday, December 6, starting at 2 pm - until you’re done! -

She will have different tables set up with materials for you to create
lovely hand-made (the most appreciated, least expensive kind) Holiday Gifts.

receive
1. instructions for making every one of the featured gifts
2. herbal snacks during the afternoon (mulled cran-apple drink, tasty
herb-cheese muffins, and more.)
Joanie will demonstrate (and you will review) the making of each herbal
gift. Then you will move from table to table, creating as many herbal gift

finished, you pay for the materials for each of the gifts you have made.

You need not choose your gift projects until you see them demonstrated.

you) no later than Nov. 28, to hold your space and so that she can get your
materials and snacks ready.

HERBAL HIGHLIGHT - Basil
Basil Ocimum basilicum Grow your Basil in a very sunny and warm
window for the winter. Feed it regularly (once every 2 or 3 weeks) with
half-strength liquid Kelpor other fertilizer which has a high nitrogen ratio
(i.e. 30-10-10, or similar) If your plant(s) is happy, you probably won’t
need to be concerned about insects. If you have a bug issue, contact Joanie
for "natural" advice.
What to do with your Basil . . . .
CULINARY Since Basil is a culinary delight, use it in many recipes, with
wonderful results. Try sweet breads, on salads (linguini, even potato or
macaroni), in vinegars, marinades, marinara sauce, jellies. Its flavor
compliments garlic nicely. When you make Pesto with it, you can use the
Pesto to make savory muffins, or put in soups and stews.
COSMETIC Make a tea, strain, and add to the bath for a refreshing
experience.
MEDICINAL The infusion (tea) aids digestion. It can be an uplifting,
energizing, mild antidepressant. Basil helps alleviate high blood pressure,
headaches and respiratory problems.
It's easy to start Basil from seed in the Spring, but seedlings tend to
“damping off”. If that happens, just brew a cup of chamomile tea, strain,
put in a mister bottle, and water the seedlings by misting them with the tea
instead of plain water.
Experience Basil AND MANY MORE HERBS by attending one of Joanie’s Herbal
Cooking or Herbal Medicine
classes,
and at Everlasting Gardener’s demonstration gardens (April through October).

For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!
